Although psychological assessment is a core criterion for doctoral level coursework, it is less common for individuals to have direct training in trauma-informed measures and administration. This presentation will provide an overview of Finn’s Therapeutic Assessment model as a frame for thinking about how to utilize these self-report and cognitive measures in an empowerment-focused manner. Further, information on measures and concepts associated with the assessment of psychological trauma, specifically focusing on the difference between screening and assessment measures, will be explored. There will also be a brief discussion of assessing symptom feigning, as there continues to be a lack of knowledge about how severely traumatized individuals perform on various validity scales or measures.
