Leveraging School Resource Officers to Promote Positive Student Outcomes for Youth of Color
Presenter: Tara C. Raines, Ph.D.

Within our national climate, tensions between communities of color, specifically Black communities, and police departments are strained. The use of police in schools has been long debated. Many advocate for the removal of law enforcement officers from schools as they contribute to the disproportionate criminalization of youth of color. Others argue that school police maintain order and safety in the school setting. This presentation will provide a historical overview on police in schools, data on the impact police officers have on youth criminalization, and guidance on how to partner with school police to promote positive student outcomes.
